I'm still shook up from what happened two streets over last week. A house caught fire and the fire department said it was likely from old wiring in the attic. Everyone got out okay but the place is gutted. Now I'm sitting here looking at my own 1960s house and wondering what's hiding behind my walls. We've never had any major electrical issues but the panel is original and I have no idea what condition the wiring is in. I tried to look up how to tell if you need an upgrade and honestly the information out there is all over the place. I think I need to just get someone out here to inspect everything but I don't even know what to ask for or what a fair price looks like. I'm looking into electrical panel and wiring services in Palo Alto and would love to hear from anyone who's had a full inspection done. Did they find stuff you didn't expect? Did you feel like they were being honest or just trying to sell you a rewire? I'm nervous about the cost but after seeing what happened to my neighbor I'd rather be safe than sorry. Any recommendations for someone thorough and trustworthy would mean a lot right now.
